There is a lot of taboo surrounding the relatively modern phenomenon that is online dating, but it has become a more viable possibility in recent years, with the introduction of dating apps. We all have dry periods in our dating calendars, and it’s not uncommon to worry that you’ll never find the right person for you, which is why it’s important to embrace the world of virtual courtship. Whether you’re looking for someone to love or something more casual, it is likely that there is an app that can help you out. But why is it better than trying to find someone at your local bar or café? Here are a few reasons.
1. It’s quick.
It’s a common complaint about young people today that they never take the time or care to do things properly, but the simple truth is that no one has much time to do anything these days. Online dating takes away the time that you have to invest trying to find someone out and about, often without much luck. The people you will be talking to also want to find a partner, so you can both save time looking and spend it getting to know your potential companions.
2. There’s something for everyone.
Not everyone is looking for the same thing, and one of the benefits of dating apps is that you are able to meet so many people that you are unlikely to meet in the ‘real world’. With apps like Badoo, which currently has 383 million users registered worldwide making it the largest social discovery network in the world, there are more options than you can imagine.
3. There’s less pressure.
Sometimes, when we are sat in front of a person who we find attractive, our brains can ruin what we believe is a perfect ice-breaker or anecdote, by faltering or just stopping entirely, making us look like we’ve never seen a human before and creating an atmosphere that is more suited to an uncomfortable work party than a romantic date. Particularly for people with social anxiety, apps can remove the stress and discomfort from the first conversations you have with a possible future partner.
4. Easier to find like-minded people.
With most dating apps and sites, you have to enter your personal information such as interests and hobbies, likes and dislikes, and sometimes there’s even a space to put in jokes and pickup lines. This makes finding someone who you will get along with far easier as you will very quickly find out what you have in common, whether you have the same sense of humor, and often give you something to open the conversation with.
So, there are just a few of the reasons that online dating shouldn’t be something to be afraid of, but embraced – especially if you are looking to get back into dating after a break. Obviously, it is important to be safe and be prepared when looking for someone to connect with, but if you are safe and sensible, there is no reason why you can’t use an app to find the one or just have fun.
